eXile international has a three-fold focus:
- We provide trauma care to war-affected children and former child soldiers in Congo and Eastern Africa through
art and expressive therapy.
- We train leaders on the ground in art and expressive therapy and partner with existing orphanages in Congo and
Eastern Africa who work with war-affected children and former child soldiers.
- We are dedicated to be the voice for those voices not heard. We are involved in social justice and are committed
to raising awareness of war-affected children, child soldiering, and those oppressed in Africa.
Action:
- We provide trauma care to war-affected children and former child soldiers in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda through an art and expressive therapy workshop incorporating art, music, dance, and drama.
- We lead trainings for leaders in Africa in trauma care, peace-building, and art and expressive therapy.
- We partner with existing orphanages and organizations in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda to provide rehabilitation, counseling, and psychosocial support for war-affected children and former child soldiers. We support the work of these community leaders by providing education, resources, and training in The Hope Initiative.
Advocacy:
- We are dedicated to being the voice for those voices not heard. We are involved in social justice initiatives and continually commit to raising awareness of war-affected children, child soldiering, sexual exploitation and violence, and those oppressed in Africa.
- We partner with organizations seeking to educate political leaders and encourage the community to become involved in advocating for war-affected children.
Awareness:
- Through speaking engagements and events, we actively raise awareness of the wars in Democratic Republic of Congo and the atrocities of numerous rebel forces, specifically the Lord's Resistance Army. By displaying the children's artwork, we hope to provide information and evidence of the long-standing wars in Central and Eastern Africa to those less knowledgeable.
The wars and violence in Congo and Eastern Africa have left many children severely emotionally
wounded and traumatized. The number of child soldiers in these regions are among the highest in the world. Young boys
are often abducted from their villages and forced to fight and even kill their family members as a means to de-sensitize
them to the fighting they will be forced to do. Young girls are often raped or used as sex slaves. Just by simply living
in these regions, children are affected by war and are often traumatized by the violence surrounding them.
We believe the ongoing violence in these areas often continues because these traumatized children are the forgotten ones. They are emotionally wounded children who, many times, grow up to be emotionally wounded adults. Thus the cycle continues.
By helping them heal from their broken hearts and showing them the love of God, they are empowered to become leaders in their communities and live for Peace rather than repeating War.
