The Swahili word "Harambee" means to "come together". The former child soldiers and war-affected orphans of Village of Hope Uganda make these beautiful beaded jewelry pieces out of paper. Proceeds go toward the children's rehabilitation. Other beads are made by women of Uganda who have survived the war of the LRA as a means to support themselves.

The Harambee Beads represent a story of redemption.  Each of the beads is made from paper that would normally be discarded.  By redeeming this paper and making beads, we are teaching these orphans that even things perceived to be garbage can be redeemed into something beautiful.
